On June 18th at about 1:16 am as I am sitting with family and friends just enjoying my vacation when in a flash my life gets turned upside down. I received a phone call from the Northern Illinois District to serve as Congregational Services Executive. At that point my mind begins to wonder, "What does God have in mind?" And even now that question is what my prayers are focused on. What does God have in mind not just for me and my family but for Gospel my church family? What does he have in mind for my ministry? What does he have in mind for my family? It is interesting that as I comtemplate these questions the reading for Sunday morning is the story of Elijah and the cave experience from 1 Kings 19. When he is trying to hear God's voice. He doesn't find it in the big events but in a quiet whisper. It just reminds me that God doesn't need the big lights and camera to act, but often it is in the quiet places that he comes to us and communicates his will for our lives. So I am sitting in a quiet place asking God, "What do you have in mind?"
