"Equipped in mission"
Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind, has for a number of years hosted a retreat for congregation elders, deacons and lay leaders led by Rev. Dr. Harold Senkbeil. In September 2008 the same training seminar will be hosted by Elm Grove Lutheran, Elm Grove. The seminar begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, and ends at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20.
The retreat is under Senkbeil's leadership, who has returned to Wisconsin after six years as associate professor of pastoral ministry and missions at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne. Senkbeil also spent 32 years in parish ministry before accepting the position at the seminary, where his teaching responsibilities included courses in evangelism and parish administration. This seminar will address the unique challenges of Lutheran ministry in post-Christian culture, exploring how congregations can develop effective leaders, reach inactives, evangelize the lost, and teach the faithful. Resources and books on Lutheran life and mission will be available for review and purchase during the seminar.
Topics covered include:
- Who are we? - Understanding and confessing Lutheran doctrine
- What is our purpose? - Gaining fresh perspective on Lutheran life and worship
- How to equip for mission - Bringing God’s gifts to his people
- Where are we headed? - Learning new tools for Lutheran mission and service
Cost is only $35 per person (compared to $135 for this same training in Ft. Wayne). Mail completed registration form and check to Elm Grove Lutheran Church, 945 Terrace Dr., Elm Grove, WI 53122.
